West yellowstone is a very small town, only a few blocks each way from town square aka stop sign :). Considering folks only open some of these restaurants in summer the food isn't all that bad. But don't expect a Texas or California type of Mexican food. Overall food in Yellowstone isn't that great, but who comes here to eat anyways. Enjoy the scenery!

Excellent food and service. Call for reservation, ask for window seating. A little pricey but ambience worth it.

Amazing food! Excellent service. Clean! Had the pleasure of having Robert wait on us. The chimichangas are delicious. The tortilla soup will have my husband returning for more. It's in the same parking lot by the grizzly and wolf discovery center.

Service was fast and friendly, but that's about the best of the experience. My girlfriend ordered shrimp fajitas. The shrimp were frozen from cosco or somewhere. They still had the shells and weren't deveined. The bell pepers and onions soaked in grease. I ordered the chile relleno. I could not identify the cheese, the batter tasted like bisquick, and the sauce, ketchup with chile powder maybe? The beans and rice, pass, they tasted like they weret bad. The prices a bit high, but not as bad as most of the other places. The ambiance, on par with a generic fast food place, with some rough hewn wood and stuffed animals here and there. Bottom line, a bit pricey for something less than cafeteria food, and they do not have any idea what "Mexican" food is or how to make it.

It was ok.. Not like the Mexican I am used to.. The staff was nice.. Service was quick but a little expensive.. $11.50 for tostada and guacamole extra.. Food just ok..We (3 couples) asked for separate checks.. they said we had to pay cash if we wanted separate checks.. We got one check with 3 totals ( not separate checks) and when my husband asked if he could use credit card they said no.. Would not go back..

Unique and tasty: get the shrimp tacos, without cheese, and enjoy the cilantro infused cole slaw in it! A bit spicy, yum. Also, their salsa is homemade and had a nice flavor, again, just a bit spicy.

I only ordered fish and chips and I thought it was good. However, it didn't look like a restaurant because I was the only customer during lunch time.

Worst Worst super worst. The food there was Not restaurant grade food. It is can food that warmed in microwave just before they serve you. The server was same grade. I can make better food than owner. Please be away from here. I went this place because it is closet to bear and wolf discovery center. I think many people is hooking here with same way. Don't be fooled! Worst worst and pricey!

Fresh pork in the carnitas tacos. Their green chili is spicy and more traditional tasting. Salsa is decent. I'd come here again.

Average food. Weird combination of Mexican and American. It was just middle of the road all the way. Prices were pretty high for the low quality but typical for the area. I would have given it three stars but the food left me with a tummy ache for the rest of the evening. Go elsewhere if you have the chance.

After stopping by the Grizzly and Wolf Center next door, we came here for dinner. If I knew then what I know now, I would have skipped it. Their $6 queso appetizer tastes like it came from a can. It needs something added to it to make it taste better, whether it's jalapenos, ground beef, or something else. Our dinners were not very good. My kids refused to eat most of what was given to them, which is out of the ordinary, but I couldn't blame them. We found good food for good prices at other restaurant in West Yellowstone. Here, they charge outrageous amounts for items, such as a tiny side of guacamole (see picture) and it is a ripoff. I'm sure they stay in business because of the visitors coming out of the Grizzly and Wolf Center next door. My advice would be to skip this place.

Went craving Mexican food. Left craving Mexican food. I'm sure they were canned beans blah rice. I got the shrimp tacos. My husband was sure his food was heated up frozen stuff. Won't be going back.

Be warned for those who have small kids, a grill cheese sandwich is $6. Waitress added a $1 for my hot water, yes water after we turned down their dessert menu, very apparent as a last minute add on to the bill. No hot water in the ladies restroom faucet.

Before dining at this place, I checked the reviews on yelp and yet still decided to give it a shot. Here's why: our group of 10 are all vegetarians and most of the reviews were regarding blend meat options. Plus a lot of reviews complained about service. We got to west Yellowstone pretty late so we were desperate for dinner and anything that was open. So we decided to ignore the reviews and give it a shot since it's pretty hard to mess up vegetarian Mexican food. Bad idea. Our server (one of two servers) was the lady (sorry no name), she wasn't friendly but not rude either. She was just blah. She took our order and brought our food. The food was terrible. Everything had too much cheese and it was cold and uncooked. Chips and salsa were straight from a bag. We asked if they had spicy salsa and I saw the waitress take a bowl of salsa and add hot sauce then proceeded to mix it and bring it to our table. (It would of been okay if they said they did not have it). None of us liked our plates. The place charges to split a plate with someone else. Also, the other server (male) drank out of the water jugs that they use to serve customers. That's just wrong. Use a cup please. I would recommend you stay away from this place. You are better off starving.

Food was ok. I've had better and I've had worse. Little pricey but it's in a tourist town with $15 hamburgers so it's to be expected. Wife had nachos and they were nothing special. My son and I had chicken and steak fajitas. Fajitas did not come out sizzling like most places but was seasoned ok. Expected a little more on the fajita plate but again it's a tourist town so for $15 the cost of a hamburger and fries I didn't expect a huge amount. Wife said guacamole wasn't good.

Definitely over-priced for mediocre food. Chicken was burnt in Caesar salad and wasn't edible. Waitress said sometimes the cooks burn the chicken... and "oh well" hoping there's better places to eat in west Yellowstone...

The food was alright. Hubby and I each got a Small Combination, which comes with a taco, cheese enchilada in a corn tortilla, and a smothered burrito with rice and beans. I'm a sucker for cheese enchiladas, so I loved those! The salsa was great, chips were either good or stale, and the food was pretty good/decent overall. But I'm giving 5 stars for the service and the dessert. We were checked on several times throughout the meal and talked and joked with both our server and the owner. Very nice and friendly and we felt like we were with friends instead of a restaurant we had never tried before. We were talked into some pie and I'm so glad we were! It was fresh from the oven (not reheated), the crust was flaky and all the various berries went well together. Not what I would've expected from a Mexican restaurant, but so good. Took some to my very picky dad back at the cabin and he loved it. I think it was apples, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and rhubarb. Mmmmm, delish! Not too sweet and just the right amount of tart. Pair it with a scoop of ice cream from them or some whipped cream and it's great.

This town has a lot of places trying to paint with all the colors. Burgers and pasta, pizza and BBQ. This place is mediocre Mexican but they also offer burgers, chicken sandwiches and the like. The restaurant it's self is a good location for parking and the facility is nice. The food is like an all inclusive resort. Wide range of choices but everything is bland and rushed. We will try something else tonight and hopefully find some flavor in this town.

We ate here very early in the season and the food was good and the price was not outrageous like some other places in town. Not as good as in the Southwest but, descent Mexican.

VERY average. Enchiladas decent, fish taco was nothing to write home about. But some gripes: cold, from-a-bag, stale tortilla chips; 3$ charge for an empty plate so I could share from my family's plates (that really irritated me!). Refried beans tasted like they came straight from a can. Mexican rice looked reheated and was flavorless. It seemed seemed like a bit expensive even for a small town. Not a signature item on the menu or anything they said they were good at making. I agree with the other reviewer that this looks like out-of-the-box and reheat Sysco food. No alcoholic beverages served in this establishment, probably why their food prices were so high. Seems very odd for a sit-down restaurant. Two-sided menu has Mexican on one and American on the other. We just had Mexican. Maybe the burgers are better. It was nice inside, though.

Not worth it. Overpriced for what they serve. Chips from a bag and dried tortillas on my chicken soft tacos. Rice and beans cool and tasted like canned. Guacamole was canned and give a very tiny plastic cup for $2 extra.

We ate lunch here after visiting the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center next door and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated right away and asked for a booth and got one. Restaurant was clean and roomy. We got a pitcher of ice water and glasses on the table which was welcome on a hot summer day. They had a $9.99 enchilada lunch special including drink which was a great deal for West Yellowstone where many of the restaurants are very over priced. I had tacos with shredded beef and thought they were very good. The service was good and the server asked us how our meal was and really seemed to care. There were several items on the menu for kids as well. All in all this is one of a very few restaurants in West Yellowstone I would recommend for reasonable food, price and friendly service for a vacationing family.

Expecting to find passably good Mexican food at a place called "Grizzly Claw" in the sleepy town of West Yellowstone, Montana? Probably not. But you'd be surprised. Even other than the fact that it's one of the few non pizza non burger joints in the area, it still impresses. The service is extremely friendly and very knowledgable about their menu and the options available. I may be getting a little over excited with four stars, but consider the location and such. I would bump it down to 3 in Texas, but I think the situation here merits the rating. The Vegetarian Angle The server was quick to inform us that the rice and beans sides were completely vegetarian. It wasn't one of those times when they have a really confused look when hearing the "v word" and need an explanation, followed by a "let me go check with the chef" and a subsequent dubious thumbs up or thumbs down. This guy was familiar with the concept and ready with the answer. I know it seems like I'm praising someone for not being stupid, but so have been my service experiences for 27 years as an American. On to the food - the Chille Rellenos were better than ones I've had at a nice place in Texas, so definitely thumbs up for that. The enchiladas were good, the beans and rice were flavorful. The portions were perfect - filling without excess. And it was all very reasonably priced. Well done, Grizzly Claw.

Nice looking restaurant next to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. The tortilla chips came out of a bag, but the salsa is awesome. Had the chile relleno with the salsa verde on it, kinda plain. I actually like the chile relleno casserole in the EDR better. Very friendly service and its great to have something besides pizza, burgers, and sandwiches in West Yellowstone.

Decent generic Mexican food. Rellenos were good as were the carnitas tacos. Chips and salsa were bottled...not a good one...chips from the big bag bought from Sysco. No beer or wine... which would give it a bit more charm at the dinner hour. Prices are high for what anyone is used to paying, but it is Yellowstone.

The food was good especially the quesadilla. The drinks were good and the waiter was nice. You should come here if you stay at West Yellowstone for a few nights.

Mediocre Mexican food. I had the chile rellenos based on previous reviews and they were bland, bland, bland!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
